Magyar says Hungary to maintain good bilateral relations with North Macedonia

Budapest, 13 April 2026 (MIA) - Péter Magyar, whose Tisza party won the Hungarian parliamentary elections this weekend, said that as PM he plans to maintain good relations with North Macedonia and other countries that have been Budapest's strategic partners.

"The fact that the Orban government had close ties with, for example, a Balkan country, does not mean these relations will be disrupted under the Tisza government. If relations with some countries were poor, they will improve. I think it is beneficial for everyone to work in our mutual interest, economic prosperity and development. I repeat, we will not interfere in the domestic affairs of other countries and will not influence your elections, be it in North Macedonia or other places," Magyar told a press conference.

When asked about a possible extradition of two Polish politicians, who have been granted asylum in Hungary, Magyar referred to the example of former Macedonian PM Nikola Gruevski, saying he should be extradited as well.
