Investigation continues into seizure of over 40 tons of marijuana, possible link to Serbia case being examined

Skopje, 9 February 2026 (MIA) – The prosecution is continuing to undertake activities in an ongoing large-scale operation, which has resulted in the seizure of over 40 tons of marijuana from several legal entities in the country. The operation is coordinated with the Interior Ministry and the competent Commission for oversight of this type of activity from the Ministry of Health, Public Prosecutor’s Office said in a press release.

The operation is carried out in ongoing coordination with the Public Prosecutor’s Office for Prosecuting Organized Crime and Corruption, as well as other prosecutor offices with local and subject-matter jurisdiction over criminal cases under the Law on Control of Narcotic Drugs.

“To fully establish the facts and circumstances, the prosecutor from the Public Prosecutor’s Office for Prosecuting Organized Crime and Corruption is communicating with the Serbia's Public Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime to exchange information that could clarify any link between the two cases and the origin of the marijuana. The prosecutor is also carrying out other legally mandated actions, including questioning witnesses, to gather evidence and facts relevant to the case,” reads the press release.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office for Prosecuting Organized Crime and Corruption stated that together with the competent institutions, it continues to take actions to fully resolve the case and the public will be informed in a timely manner.

On Feb. 7, Interior Ministry reported the seizure of a large quantity of marijuana. At a legal entity in Skopje, around nine tons of marijuana and over 1,300 bottles of cannabis oil were discovered and confiscated. Additionally, over 31 tons of marijuana and biomass were seized from legal entities in the eastern region of the country.
