Filipche: Parliament should adopt resolution with country’s red lines, EU talks to be halted if new veto

Skopje, 29 August 2025 (MIA) - SDSM leader Venko Filipche said he believes Parliament should adopt a joint resolution on the country's European integration outlining its “red lines” and that if Bulgaria’s veto is repeated the country should halt its negotiations with the European Union. According to the opposition leader, the Government is pursuing an insincere policy regarding the Euro-integration and deliberately prolonging the process.

“Let’s adopt a joint resolution in Parliament, in which we will outline our red lines. And if a new veto happens, we should halt our negotiations with the EU,” Filipche said in an interview with TV Sitel.

The opposition leader said the Government’s call for a consensus on the topic isn’t entirely sincere.

“I believe there is no intention to take a step forward toward European integration. The reason we accepted the French proposal is because it came ready from the European Union and it was clear to us that we wouldn’t have another chance,” Filipche said.

According to the opposition leader, when VMRO-DPMNE came to power, Europe also told them there was no other option. Filipche said SDSM offers unconditional support on the issue of constitutional amendments and the Euro-integration if the Government is able to secure better terms.

Filipche said the country must not wait aimlessly, adding that young people are perceiving stagnation, which, he said, directly influences their decision to leave the country.

"For the first time in the polls, the issue of youth emigration is emerging as one of the most important problems, right after the judiciary, corruption, and European integration," Filipche said.
