Brussels, 27 December 2025 (dpa/MIA) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will consult with European allies on Saturday before the next day's talks with US President Donald Trump about steps to end the almost four-year-long war with Russia.
A telephone call will take place in the evening with Zelensky, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and several European heads of state and government, a commission spokeswoman in Brussels said.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is also set to meet Zelensky on Saturday in Halifax, Canada, with the meeting scheduled for 1:05 pm (1705 GMT), according to the prime minister's agenda.
Trump will receive Zelensky at 3 pm (2000 GMT) on Sunday for bilateral talks in Palm Beach, Florida, the White House said.
The new summit is expected to continue discussions of a settlement of the war in Ukraine, which began with the full-scale Russian invasion in February 2022.
Russia was not mentioned in the announcements, so talks with Moscow do not appear to be planned for the time being.
In an apparent attempt to influence the diplomatic process in its favour, Russia continued its aerial strikes on Ukraine overnight, injuring more than two dozen people in Kiev and killing one person in the surrounding region.
Diplomatic activity has accelerated since US President Donald Trump presented a 28-point peace plan in late November, which unsettled Kiev and its allies by echoing several Kremlin positions.
Zelensky and his partners have since worked on a revised 20-point framework, including during recent meetings in Berlin and Miami with senior Trump administration officials, while the United States has also held separate talks with Moscow.
