Ukrainian officials report wave of Russian strikes across country

Kiev, 25 April 2026 (dpa/MIA) - Russia launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine overnight, killing at least five and injuring more than 30, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reported on Saturday.

Air raid sirens sounded across the country with residents urged to seek shelter. Heavy explosions were reported in Kharkiv and Dnipro, while other cities including Kiev were also attacked.

Prosecutors in Dnipro said at least three people were killed and 21 were injured in the city, with efforts ongoing to free people believed to be buried under the rubble of a residential block.

Dnipropetrovsk military governor Oleksandr Hanzha said at least 18 people, including a child, had been injured in Dnipro. Nine of those had been hospitalized and were in a moderate condition, he added.

Another person was injured in the Nikopol region and residential buildings had been damaged in Kryvyi Rih, Hanzha said.

The Ukrainian Air Force said Russia had launched cruise missiles alongside ballistic missiles and swarms of drones in an attempt to overwhelm Ukrainian air defences.

A total of 619 Russian drones as well as 47 missiles were fired, with Ukraine able to intercept 580 drones alongside most of the Kh-101 cruise missiles and Kalibr missiles used in the attacks, according to the air force.

Ukraine has been warding off a full-scale Russian invasion since February 2022.

The Russian Defence Ministry reported that 127 Ukrainian drones were intercepted over the Volga region as well as the cities of Perm and Yekaterinburg further east.

Six people were injured in Yekaterinburg, regional governor Denis Pasler was quoted as saying by state news agency TASS.

There was initially no information available on potential military or industrial targets.
