Two men indicted for endengering the environment

Skopje, 18 December 2025 (MIA) – The Skopje Public Prosecutor’s Office after concluding an investigation said on Thursday it filed an indictment against two people charging them with endangering the environment and nature with waste, according to the Criminal Code.
The investigation, said Prosecutor’s Office in a press release, established that throughout October the two men by failing to supervise the collection, transport and improper waste management, they could have caused significant damage to the quality of soil, air or water, posing a risk to human life or health or the destruction of flora or fauna on a large scale.
“The acting director of the Communal Hygiene Public Enterprise acted against the company’s statute, the law on communal affairs failing to implement the decisions and conclusions of the Administrative Board… As head of the public enterprise, a communal service provider, he failed to provide communal services in constant and quality manner and failed to maintain facilities, equipment and devices,” said the press release.
Together with his accomplice, a waste management manager, “they intentionally acted against the Law on Environment and the Law on Waste Management, they did not take measures and activities for environmental protection and they did not implement the plans and program for municipal waste management in the area of the City of Skopje.”
“By failing to meet the basic activity of regular collection and transportation of harmless waste, they allowed the creation of landfills in public areas,” said the prosecution.
A public prosecutor proposed that they should be released from detention and precautionary measures should come to effect, such as a ban to leave the residence, to report to the court and to have their passports confiscated.
