Washington, 27 April 2026 (dpa/MIA) - The gunman at a gala dinner in Washington held anti-Christian views, US President Donald Trump told Fox News on Sunday.
"If you read his manifesto, he hates Christians that's one thing for sure," Trump told the broadcaster. The president did not provide any further details about the document.
Trump described the attacker as a "sick guy." Family members had even provided information about the anti-Christian views to the security authorities, he said.
At the gala dinner with the capital's press on Saturday evening, a heavily armed man stormed through a security checkpoint and was overpowered by security forces. Shots were fired and the president was taken to safety by his bodyguards.
The suspect's motive was part of the investigation, Attorney General Todd Blanche had said earlier. Based on initial findings, investigators assume the gunman had targeted members of the Trump administration, Blanche said.
