Washington, 4 April 2025 (dpa/MIA) - US President Donald Trump on Thursday denied reports saying far-right activist Laura Loomer had persuaded him to fire several members of his National Security Council.
According to CNN and other US media outlets, Loomer accused staff during a meeting with Trump of being insufficiently loyal to the president.
The New York Times reported that six senior National Security Council officials were dismissed, while others were reassigned. During the 30-minute meeting, Loomer criticized the staff in front of Trump and National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, reports added.
Vice President JD Vance also attended the meeting.
Trump, however, denied that Loomer was involved in Wednesday's firings but acknowledged that she had suggested names for potential hires during their meeting.
Speaking to reporters on his way to Florida, he called her a "very good patriot" and "a strong person."
He added that she makes "recommendations of things and people" and is usually constructive. But when asked whether she was involved in the personnel decisions, Trump replied, "No."
Loomer is known for spreading conspiracy theories, such as describing the Islamist attacks in New York and Washington on September 11, 2001, as an inside job.
