SDSM: Responsibility must be taken for Kochani tragedy
- SDSM vice-president Ana Chupeska sought Sunday responsibility from Minister of Interior Panche Toshkovski but also thorough and independent investigation in the Kochani tragedy.

Skopje, 16 March 2025 (MIA) - SDSM vice-president Ana Chupeska sought Sunday responsibility from Minister of Interior Panche Toshkovski but also thorough and independent investigation in the Kochani tragedy. She also urged the Prosecutor's Office to investigate the tragedy to the very end and those responsible to be held responsible.
"Toshkovski has been Minister of Interior for the past 13 months. SDSM believed that the minister would be virtuous enough to tell the truth and expected to precisely pinpoint responsibility, proving that he intends to spare no one. But he failed to do this," Chupeska told a press confeence.
Instead, she added, Toshkovski politicized the situation and blamed others, while being in the post for a year.
"Minister Toshkovski, isn't it shameful that you fail to take responsibility and resign, since this nightclub worked without a license for a whole year. Who is supposed to check this if not you and your inspectors?", asked Chupeska.
According to her, the Protection and Rescue Directorate is also tasked with inspecting the security standards of all facilities once a year.
"How come that the police, which was on site at the time of the incident, did not close the nightclub, which obviously operated beyond all legal standards and procedures. How come that the nightclub was open at 3 am although licenses are valid for up to 1 am," asked Chupeska.
She said that the fie broke out due to the use of stage pyrotechnics, which handling is approved by the MoI.
"We urge all stakeholders to refain from politicing the case because it is devastating and extemely painful for all those mourning for their loved ones," undelined Chupeska.
