Beijing, 9 April 2025 (dpa/MIA) - Twenty people died in a fire in a nursing home in the northern Chinese province of Hubei, local media reported on Wednesday.

The fire broke out on Tuesday evening in a nursing home near the city of Chengde - about 220 kilometres north-east of Beijing, Chinese state media reported citing authorities.

Other residents of the facility were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment, the reports continued.

Local government experts were on site to coordinate rescue efforts, state media said adding that the cause of the fire was being investigated.
