Skopje, 6 September 2024 (MIA) - Deputy Minister of Transport Kaltrina Zekolli Shaqiri held a meeting Friday with Poland's acting Chief Inspector of Road Transport Artur Czapiewski and Piotr Wysocki, a representative from the Polish Embassy, during which they discussed the cooperation between the two countries, with an emphasis on transport policy and investments.

At the meeting, Deputy Minister Zekolli Shaqiri noted that the country has been continuously working on harmonizing its domestic transport policies with the transport regulations of the European Union.

The meeting also discussed the implementation of the twinning project for the modernization and raising of the capacities of the State Transport Inspectorate, financed by the European Union with EUR 2.1 million.

According to the Ministry, the main goal of the project is to improve the technical and human capacities of the State Transport Inspectorate through new skills, experiences and by harmonizing the domestic legislation with that of the European Union. To that end, starting from October 2024 Poland’s State Transport Inspectorate will have a permanent representative in the country for the next 28 months who will work on improving the overall activity of the State Transport Inspectorate.

“I am glad that we are beginning a project which will improve the safety of our roads, and our inspectors will gain new knowledge and experience on the same level as their colleagues from the European Union.

Additionally, we will achieve higher safety standards in this area. This is a project funded by the European Union and I expect that we will significantly improve the conditions in our State Transport Inspectorate together,” Deputy Minister Zekolli Shaqiri said after the meeting.
