Parliament to hold constitutive session on May 28

Skopje, 23 May 2024 (MIA) – The constitutive session of the new Parliament is scheduled for next Tuesday, May 28 at 11 am. Until the election of the new Parliament Speaker, according to the Rules of Procedure, the session will be chaired by the oldest member of parliament, and in the newly elected composition, that is MP Merita Kolçi-Koxhaxhiku.

Parliament Speaker Jovan Mitreski held a meeting today with representatives of the political parties represented in the newly elected Parliament, in accordance with Article 9, paragraph (2) of the Parliament's Rules of Procedure.

During the meeting, it was unanimously decided that the constitutive session, following the eleventh parliamentary elections, will be held on May 28, Tuesday, at 11 am, Parliament’s press service said on Thursday.

Mitreski said that the agenda of the constitutive session will include election of the Verification Committee, members of the Committee on Election and Appointment Issues, and election of Parliament Speaker.

According to the new Rules of Procedure, the constitutive session lasts a maximum of three days, and the Parliament is constituted by the election of the Speaker.

At today's meeting, Nikola Miceski from the VMRO-DPMNE’s “Your Macedonia” coalition, Oliver Spasovski from the SDSM’s Coalition for European Future, Arber Ademi from the “European Front” coalition, Halil Snopche from the “Worth It” coalition, Borislav Krmov from the Levica party and Boban Karapejovski from the ZNAM Movement were present.

Merita Kolçi-Koxhaxhiku, as the oldest parliamentarian, and the Secretary General of the Parliament, Cvetanka Ivanova, also attended the meeting.
