Skopje, 21 November 2025 (MIA) – Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi held his first meeting with the newly appointed Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, Jiang Xiaoyan, during which he underscored that the relations between the two countries are excellent, marked by great respect for the tradition, history, independence and sovereignty, and affirmed support for the “one China” principle.

“The two countries have a long history of cooperation dating back to our independence, three decades of mutual respect and proper communication. China, as the world’s second-largest economy, is our country’s biggest trading partner outside Europe. In the Parliament, a Parliamentary Group for Cooperation with China is traditionally established, serving as a link between the parliaments of the two countries,” Gashi said at the meeting.

According to the press release, cooperation is being carried out across all sectors, including the economy, infrastructure, business, education, culture, and sports. It further notes that Ambassador Jiang Xiaoyan’s commitments and initiatives aim to deepen this cooperation in the interest of the citizens.

The Chinese Ambassador conveyed to Speaker Gashi an invitation from the President of the National People’s Congress to visit China. The Parliament noted that the invitation was accepted and regarded as a significant step toward strengthening parliamentary relations.
