Parliament adopts several laws with no debate

Skopje, 22 April 2025 (MIA) — At its 44th session held Tuesday, Parliament adopted without any debate 19 proposed bills to amend laws, including the Law on Construction; the Law on Media; and the Minimum Wage Law. Also without any debate and by 82 unanimous votes, the draft Energy Law was moved to go through a second reading before lawmakers.

Speaking about the need of the new Energy Law, Minister of Energy, Mining, and Mineral Resources Sanja Bozhinovska said it was long overdue. She said the deadline for aligning the national legislaton with EU's Clean Energy for all Europeans package had passed a year ago.

The new Energy Law, Bozhinovska said, would implement several key steps from the country's reform agenda. These include merging with the EU electricity market and joining the EU's day-ahead market, in accordance with Energy Community requirements.

The new Law on Construction was adopted with 65 votes for and 10 against.

Deputy Minister of Transport Kaltrina Zekolli Shaqiri said the amendments to the Law on Construction introduced mandatory construction licenses for construction companies. If any construction companies broke the law in any way, she said, their construction licenses would be revoked.

Lawmakers also adopted amendments to the Law on Copyright and Related Rights, the Law on Employment and Work of Foreigners, the Law on the European Works Council, the Law on Internship, the Law on Industrial Property, the Law on Technical Requirements for Products and Conformity Assessment, the Law on Records in the Field of Labor, and the Law on Amicable Resolution of Labor Disputes as well as others. mr/
