Parliament adopts amendments to Law on Inspection Supervision in expedited procedure

Skopje, 30 January 2025 (MIA) - With 66 votes in favor and eight against, Parliament adopted Thursday the amendments to the Law on Inspection Supervision in an expedited procedure. With the amendments, the inspectorates will continue to operate as bodies within the ministries, and they won’t have their own budget accounts. Inspectorates won’t be able to launch public procurement and employment procedures independently, nor make decisions on the rights and duties of employees.

At the brief debate in Parliament on Thursday, opposition MPs warned that the amendments would “suspend” inspection supervision and give rise to “legal absurdity and uncertainty”. The MPs from the ruling parties, on the other hand, accused the opposition MPs of making ludicrous statements, noting they should have submitted amendments “if they really wanted to improve the law”.

“The amendments are late and pointless, while the inspectorates will carry out supervision that can be legally disputed since they won’t exist as legal entities,” SDSM MP Jovanka Trenchevska said.

VMRO-DPMNE's Bojan Stojanovski said the opposition MPs are making ludicrous statements.

“Nothing Trenchevska said is true, not a single word is true. The inspectorates will not lose their legal subjectivity, they will just become a part of the ministries, while the point of the amendments is to reduce first-line budget users. This does not mean they will lose their legal subjectivity,” Stojanovski said.
