Neres scores twice as Napoli beat Bologna to win Italian Super Cup

London, 23 December 2025 (dpa/MIA) - David Neres scored twice as Napoli wrapped up their third Italian Super Cup triumph by breezing past Bologna 2-0 in Riyadh.

A goal in each half proved enough for Antonio Conte's men, who were seldom troubled by their opponents in the Saudi capital.

Neres lit up a routine contest in the 39th minute when he opened the scoring with a curling left-footed effort from outside the box.

And he all-but sealed Napoli's win in the 58th minute when he capitalised on a defensive mix-up to poke home his second from a tight angle.

The manner of his side's win will have delighted Conte, who saw his side beaten 2-0 by the same opponents in Serie A last month, and who had only recently emerged from a testing domestic spell.

The visitors held their own in the opening stages without creating any clear-cut chances, and it was Napoli who should have grabbed a 37th-minute lead when Leonardo Spinazzola missed a simple chance to put his side in front.

Bologna keeper Federico Ravaglia was equal to Napoli's threat on that occasion but he could do nothing two minutes later when Neres let fly with his superb curling effort from the right flank.

Bologna rallied before half-time and Riccardo Orsolini brought a save out of Napoli number one Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, but it was the favourites who still looked more likely to add to their tally, and Ravaglia was forced into saves from both Rasmus Hojlund and Amir Rrahmani.

Bologna continued to press in the second period without ever really looking likely to erase the deficit, and their eagerness to respond cost them dear just before the hour mark when Neres snatched his second.

Ravaglia was caught quickly playing a ball out of defence and Neres pounced, homing in on goal from the right flank and firing home to secure his side's victory.
