Athens, 22 December 2025 (MIA) – Protesting Greek farmers are set to block traffic at the Evzoni (Bogorodica) and Niki (Medzitlija) border crossings with North Macedonia yet again on Monday starting at 6 p.m. local time, MIA's Athens correspondent reports.
According to Greek news agency ANA-MPA, farmers will set up a four-hour blockade starting at 6 p.m. through 10 p.m. local time at Evzoni, closing all traffic at the border crossing with passage allowed only in emergency cases.
The Niki border crossing will be closed for freight transport for six hours starting from 6 p.m. local time, to be extended to passenger vehicles from 8 p.m. for a period of two hours, i.e. through 10 p.m. local time.
Extended blockades also continue at the Exohi and Promachonas border crossings with Bulgaria, but only for trucks, while the Kipi border crossing with Türkiye will be open for traffic on Monday.
The farmers’ protests began on November 30 due to increased production costs and low selling prices for their products, as well as a scandal involving European agricultural subsidies. Their main demand is the payment of overdue subsidies. The farmers said their protests will continue until their demands are met.
However, they said they will spend the Christmas and New Year holidays at the roadblocks, but will ensure unobstructed movement of travellers.
