Skopje, 2 October 2024 (MIA) -- While fighting a large residential fire in Skopje, a firefighter was in serious condition after he inhaled a lot of smoke and had to be taken to hospital, officials said.

According to the Crisis Management Center, the Skopje Fire Department firefighter was taken to the Toxicology Clinic.

The fire broke out at an apartment building in the Skopje municipality of Chair early on Wednesday morning.

Twenty firefighters with seven fire trucks rushed to the scene of the fire, together with police and ambulances. 

The firefighting teams were battling the blazes since 1:50 am, according to the CMC.

The residents were evacuated from the building, which also housed a warehouse and several businesses. mr/
