Skopje, 10 January 2025 (MIA) — Dismissing media reports that Parliamentary Committee on Social Policy, Demography and Youth chair Ilire Dauti would be replaced after she lost a no-confidence vote in Parliament on Friday, Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi's office sent a press release saying the no-confidence vote was not legally binding and need not lead to her ouster.
According to the release from the Parliament Speaker's office, appointments and dismissals of committee chairs are regulated by other legal provisions.
"Media reports saying the result of the no-confidence vote requires the dismissal of Ms. Dauti are incorrect," the release said.
"We stress that the no-confidence vote is an expression of the MPs' [lack of confidence in her] and has no legally binding consequences for her dismissal," it said, adding that the vote "has no legal effect."
"Appointments and dismissals are regulated by other special procedures established in the Parliamentary Rules of Procedure, the laws and the Constitution."
The media reports were citing Parliament Speaker Gashi's earlier statement that a member of the European Front would replace Dauti if she were to be dismissed. mr/
