Skopje, 22 April 2026 (MIA) — A book launch for Elena Verizhnikova and Emil Niami's "Macedonian Lexicography: Achievements and Perspectives" (Mi-An, 2025) will be held at Miladinov Brothers City Library at 7 pm.
The launch will take place in the library's "Longing for the South" hall. Macedonian linguists Simona Gruevska Madzhoska and Boban Karapejovski will speak about the book.
According to the publisher, "Macedonian Lexicography: Achievements and Perspectives" provides a concise history of Macedonian dictionary-making, focusing on the period after the language was officially standardized.
In the book, the authors review monolingual dictionaries, which define Macedonian words using the Macedonian language itself, to highlight the country's linguistic progress and future goals.
Elena Verizhnikova (b. 1963, Oryol, Russia) is a Russian linguist, lexicographer, translator and Macedonian studies scholar who has authored dozens of scholarly articles and two Russian-Macedonian dictionaries. She has received a Medal for Merit to Macedonia and the Blazhe Koneski Award.
Emil Niami (b. 1977, Skopje) is a Macedonian philologist, lexicographer, translator and Russian studies scholar known for compiling the first Macedonian dictionaries dedicated to paronyms, antonyms and homonyms. He received the November 13 Award in 2021. mr/
