Skopje, 14 September 2025 (MIA) - The fire in the village of Trubarevo has been extinguished but there is still smoke billowing from the ground, Protection and Rescue Directorate (PRD) director Stojanche Angelov has said after the blaze broke out yesterday in a warehouse for recycling of plastic and electronic waste.
In a video-statement, Angelov says that as a result of the brave and fast intervention of the Skopje firefighters and proper management of the operation, four facilities next to the site of the fire remained intact.

"The fire has been extinguished but there is still smoke billowing from the site. The section where the lithium batteries are stored has been covered by sand. The smoke is still large, the firefighters are working on getting the sand wet in order to put this out, since such electronic waste is extremely difficult to extinguish. Firefighters have been here all night," says Angelov.
The PRD director says he received reports of another fire in the Drisla landfill about 2.30 a.m.
"There was some burning but predominantly the gas that evaporates from the landfill. The firefighters put out the blaze and the situation is currently stable. We are continuing to operate the area and at least half of the burning zone at Drisla has been already covered. However, some machinery has been brought here in Trubarevo as well," says Angelov.
