Angelov: 20 wildfires extinguished, 10 still active

Skopje, 23 July 2024 (MIA) - A total of 30 wildfires were registered in the country in the past 24 hours. Twenty of them have been completely extinguished, while 10 are still active, the head of the Crisis Management Center (CMC), Stojanche Angelov, said on Tuesday.

“There are two active wildfires on Serta Mountain. The first one is burning near the Krivolak army field towards the Bregalnica river, while the second one is burning above the village of Puhche in the direction of the village of Selce, this fire is partially under control and doesn’t pose a threat to the two villages,” Angelov said.

Forest fires are active on the territory of the Municipality of Plasnica as well as the Municipality of Chashka.

Two fires are also active in the Municipality of Dolneni, one of which is near the village of Nebregovo.

“The last forest fire, which we are constantly extinguishing only for it to reactivate is on the territory of the Municipality of Novo Selo, near the village of Badilen, near the border with Bulgaria. In the efforts to fight all these wildfires today we will deploy all our aircraft, the two police helicopters, two army helicopters, the two air tractors of the Protection and Rescue Directorate, as well as one Montenegrin helicopter, which is still in Macedonia and is helping extinguish the fires,” Angelov stressed.

The CMC head said the country has enough firefighters engaged in the firefighting efforts. Members of the Army, police and the Protection and Rescue Directorate, as well as PE Macedonian Forests employees are also engaged on the ground. Angelov stressed that they have resources and partial control on the wildfires, and no populated areas are currently under threat.
