Andonovski - Grikšas: Digitalization as generator of economic growth, modernizing public sector

Skopje, 18 May 2026 (MIA) - Digital transformation and strengthening of cooperation in the field of innovations were in the focus of the meeting between Minister of Digital Transformation Stefan Andonovski and Lithuanian Minister of Economy and Innovation Edvinas Grikšas in Vilnius on Monday.

Ministers Andonovski and Grikšas highlighted the importance of digitalization as generator of economic growth and discussed the possibilities for enhancement of cooperation through exchange of experiences, knowledge and joint projects, the Ministry of Digital Transformation said in a press release.

Interlocutors agreed that digitalization is one of the key generators of economic growth, while increasing competitiveness and modernizing the public sector. In this context, they discussed the Lithuanian experience in the field of innovations, startups, GovTech solutions and public policies as a model for acceleration of digital transformation.

"We see digital transformation as the foundation for economic growth, more competitive companies and more efficient institutions. The Lithuanian experience in this regard is significant for Macedonia, because it opens the room for concrete cooperation, knowledge exchange and pilot projects that can produce direct results for citizens and the economy," said Andonovski.

He added that digital transformation is seen as a strategic process that should lead to more efficient public services, better data management, increased interoperability among institutions and stronger support for innovations and new technologies.

The delegations proposed a technical exchange between the two ministries, with a focus on innovation policies, digital economy and practical solutions for digitalization of the public sector, with the two countries already cooperating in piloting solutions for citizens through the GovTech4All project and the Digital Europe programme.

During the visit, Minister Andonovski also met with Lithuania's Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys and highlighted the importance of the reform steps that the country has undertaken in the digital agenda, public administration and development of digital services, which have been recognized in regional and European processes, such as the Growth Plan, the Reform Agenda and EU integration, reads the press release.
