30 years of North Macedonia - Australia diplomatic relations marked in Canberra

Skopje, 14 February 2025 (MIA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Timcho Mucunski, as part of his visit to Australia, addressed the event marking 30 years of diplomatic relations between the Republic of North Macedonia and Australia.

Anne Aly, Minister for Early Childhood Education and Minister for Youth and Cassandra Fernando, Member of the Australian Parliament, also addressed the event, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade said in a press release.

Speaking to representatives of the Macedonian community, business leaders, federal and regional government ministers, parliamentarians and members of the diplomatic corps, Minister Mucunski underscored his positive impressions from the visit and expressed satisfaction with the strong bilateral relations fostered over the past three decades.

Mucunski stated that this first high-level political visit in 15 years reaffirms the strong commitment to advancing political, economic, cultural, and overall cooperation in areas of mutual interest. Despite the broad scope of existing cooperation, he noted that there remains considerable potential for further development between the two countries.

A special focus was placed on the role of the Macedonian diaspora in Australia, which, according to Mucunski, serves as a vital link between the two countries, enhancing cultural and economic relations. Mucunski also emphasized the diaspora’s role as a key driver of bilateral cooperation and a contributor to the lasting friendship between North Macedonia and Australia.
