Kavadarci, 9 April 2026 (MIA) — A new exhibition showcasing Gevgelija's historic churches and monasteries opened Wednesday at the Kavadarci Museum, MIA's Kavadarci correspondent reports.
The event also featured the release of a catalog documenting five years of the Gevgelija Cultural Center's ethnological archive.
Angela Simonova, an ethnology curator at the Kavadarci Museum, described the exhibit as a collaborative effort of the two institutions to preserve the region’s spiritual and material history.
"This exhibition is the result of dedicated work, research, preservation and love for tradition," Simonova said.
The Gevgеlija ethnological archive's collection includes a variety of household items, textiles, handmade knitwear, embroidery and traditional Macedonian attire, she said.
The region is known for its significant religious heritage. According to Simonova, the area's monasteries and churches are among the most visited sites by international researchers.
The exhibition, created by local choreographer and ethnochoreologist Silvester Prole, features 17 panels and a short video.
Rather than focusing solely on architecture, the displays include images of people in ceremonial attire to illustrate the connection between faith and cultural identity, Simonova said.
"These holy places remain important spiritual landmarks and living witnesses of history," she said.
"They represent a bridge between the past and the present, preserving the collective memory and cultural identity of the Gevgelija region."
The director of the Gevgelija Museum and the author of the exhibition also spoke at the opening. mr/
