Berlin, 14 December 2024 (dpa/MIA) - Formula One world champion Max Verstappen looks to have completed his sanction for swearing in a press conference after being photographed with youngsters in Rwanda.

The Dutchman, who sealed a fourth F1 drivers' title in the season just finished, was ordered to carry out a “work of public interest” after using foul language in September.

The governing FIA decided he should do it in Rwanda and posted photographs on X on Saturday of the 27-year-old surrounded by young Rwandans at a programme organized by the Rwanda Automobile Club (RAC).

"Giving back to the community. Thank you, Max," the post read.

Verstappen was in the capital Kigali for Friday's glitzy FIA awards where he picked up his drivers' trophy from Rwandan President Paul Kagame. McLaren were also awarded the F1 constructors' trophy and other motorsports champions were hailed.

Ahead of the awards, Kagame announced that Rwanda was bidding to host an annual F1 race in the country.

The last F1 grand prix on the African continent was held in 1993 in South Africa.
