Slovak Embassy: New direct Bratislava–Ohrid flight from March 17 to strengthen bilateral relations

Skopje, 10 March 2026 (MIA) – As of March 17, North Macedonia and Slovakia will be connected by a new direct flight between Ohrid and Bratislava.

“The launch of the direct air route is another step forward in strengthening contacts between our two countries, especially in tourism and business. We believe this will contribute to further strengthening cooperation and friendly relations between Slovakia and North Macedonia,” the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in the country said in a Facebook post.

The Embassy notes that the direct air route opens new opportunities for tourists from North Macedonia, who will have the chance to visit Bratislava and Slovakia and discover its historic cities, nature, culture and gastronomy.

At the same time, the post adds, the new flight will enable visitors from Slovakia to explore the beauty of Ohrid and its unique lake, one of the most significant and cultural treasures in the region.

The new air route was announced around two months ago by Transport Minister Aleksandar Nikoloski and Slovakia’s Ambassador in the country, Iveta Hricová, at a meeting in Skopje. Deputy Prime Minister Nikoloski then underlined that the government places special focus on the development of air transport and that the introduction of the route will strengthen economic links between the two countries.
