Skopje, 10 April 2025 (MIA) – President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova and the Slovenian National Assembly Speaker, Urška Klakočar Zupančič, who is on official visit to country, met Thursday and reaffirmed their commitment to advancing regional cooperation, strengthening economic relations and providing unwavering support for North Macedonia’s European integration.
Slovenia has been and will remain our supporter and friend on the path to the EU, because that is where we belong, President Siljanovska Davkova noted.
As reported by the President’s Office, she expressed gratitude for the help and support Slovenia provided after the tragic event in Kochani, which demonstrates the strong friendship between the two countries.
She also thanked for the continuous support in our EU integration process.
Stressing the need to adhere to the Copenhagen criteria, Siljanovska Davkova expressed doubts about whether the EU’s constitutional documents are being respected.
Both expressed satisfaction with bilateral cooperation and partnership on a multilateral level, which, among other things, is based on their alliance within NATO, shared commitments to peace and stability in the region, and the fact that there are no open issues between the two countries.
Klakočar Zupančič reaffirmed her support, noting that the EU is incomplete without all European nations. She expressed understanding for the frustration of Macedonian citizens due to the prolonged European integration process and for their fears of new obstacles being imposed despite the many concessions made by North Macedonia.
They, as stated in the press release, agreed that the EU’s enlargement policy must not be bilateralized and should not include special criteria or precedents, as this would affect future candidates as well.
