St. Sylvester
Born in Rome in 314. Sylvester was made Bishop of Rome and occupied this position for twenty-one years. This was the era of Constantine the Great, when the public position of the Church so greatly improved, a change which must certainly have been very noticeable at Rome. St. Sylvester greatly advanced religion by a punctual discharge of all the duties of his exalted station, until his death in 335. He was buried in the cemetery of Priscilla.
St. Seraphim of Saros
He was born in 1759, in Kursk, Russia. A lifelong intimacy with God, and an abiding Christian love for his fellow man, were two of the many attributes. He was also famous of his power of healing through Jesus and Mary. He died in 1833 and seventy years later was made a Saint.

St. Paul the first hermit
It was in Egypt that the great monastic movement began in the fourth century. Thousands upon thousands of men and women moved into the nearby deserts to undertake lives of penance and prayer. St. Paul had fled during the persecution of the Roman Emperor Decius, which raged in the years 250-251. St. Paul the Hermit was the first Egyptian to undertake the monastic life and lived in the remote wasteland. The longer he remained, the more content he became with the solitary life of work and prayer. He was 113 years old when he died.
