Skopje, 3 March 2026 (MIA) — An official investigation has been launched into the case of the mother and child who fell from a high-rise building Monday in the Skopje municipality of Karposh, the Skopje Public Prosecutor's Office said Tuesday.
Acting on a public prosecutor's order, police detained one person to investigate their potential criminal liability, the PPO release said.
Authorities have secured a warrant to thoroughly search the apartment, which they sealed immediately after the incident.
Preliminary evidence suggests the apartment was locked from the inside at the time of the incident, with only the woman and the minor girl locked inside alone.

The public prosecutor has launched several investigative steps, including interrogations of individuals who may have relevant information; digital forensics on mobile phones; and a review of security footage.
An autopsy is underway today following a court order, the release said.
The site remains under police seal and secure. The prosecutor is looking into the history of the case by asking the police and social services for any old reports the victim may have made.
The prosecutor is also launching an internal review of the police to see if they followed the right procedures when those earlier reports were first filed. mr/
