Norway doubles aid to Ukraine

Copenhagen, 6 March 2025 (dpa/MIA) - Norway is increasing its financial support for Ukraine this year to $7.77 billion, the government in Oslo said on Thursday evening. Previously, aid was planned to be just under €3 billion for 2025.

Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre said: "We are in Norway's worst security situation since World War II. This is a solid Norwegian contribution to peace and stability in Ukraine and Europe."

Norway shares a 198-kilometre-long border with Russia in the far north. The country is a founding member of NATO, but unlike its neighbours Finland and Sweden, it is not a member of the European Union.

Jens Stoltenberg, Norwegian finance minister and former NATO secretary general, wrote in a post on the platform X: "Europe must do more. I am pleased about the unanimous support from the Norwegian parliament behind this decision."
