Macedonian Radio marks 81st anniversary

Skopje, 28 December 2025 (MIA) – Macedonian Radio is marking Sunday its 81st anniversary. On December 28, 1944, Macedonian Radio kicked off its mission with the famous “Radio Skopje is speaking” (зборуе радио Скопје, зборуе радио Скопје), spoken by the writer and WWII veteran, Vlado Maleski. Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, it became the center of family life and the only source of information, music and culture.

It was a time of original productions, says the Macedonian Radio in a statement.

“Radio played a key role in fostering Macedonian language, music and culture. The voices of radio hosts were a recognizable symbol. Today, after 81 years, we have digitization, content diversity and more freedom to create programs. Even though there is tough competition, radio manages to maintain its unique closeness with listeners.”

“Macedonian Radio, Radio Skopje is the voice of the citizens, the guardian of language and a testament of the time we live in. The golden era isn’t in the past. Macedonian Radio, Radio Skopje isn’t only a medium, it’s a sound memory of a country,” says the statement.

Radio, it concludes, remains a symbol of closeness, authenticity and culture with a focus on Macedonian identity.
