Skopje, 21 April 2025 (MIA) - Pope Francis, who passed away at the age of 88 on Monday, paid a visit to North Macedonia in May 2019.

The visit was part of his tour that also included Bulgaria and was the first visit of a pontiff of the Roman-Catholic Church to the country.

The central event took place at the Skopje square, attended by about 15,000 people and 300 joirnalists, with Pope Francis holding a lithurgical service.

Pope Francis also visited the Memorial Home of Mother Teresa, who was canonized by the Vatican back in 2016.

The visit also coincided with the 25th anniversary from the establishment of diplomatic ties between North Macedonia and the Vatican.
