Skopje, 29 December 2025 (MIA) - The Government and the World Bank signed Monday a contract for a grant in the amount of EUR 13.56 million within the Trade and Transport Facilitation Project.
The project is part of the Safe and Sustainable Transport Programme (SSTP), which aims to enhance transport safety and sustainability in the Western Balkans.
"Today we are signing a grant agreement for enhancement of transport efficiency and predictability of Corridor X. This is important for road infrastructure, and the project is set to ensure facilitation of trade and lower costs for economic entities," said Finance Minister Gordana Dimitrieska-Kochoska, who signed the agreement on the Government's behalf.
World Bank's Country Manager Carole Megevand said investments in modern road infrastructure and transit corridors are of vital importance for North Macedonia's growth, strengthening of value chains, opening of new markets, lower business costs and attraction of foreign investments.
"These improvements will help the country create new jobs and build a competitive and resilient economy. This initiative is key for the country reforms in the EU accession process, and in line with the EU law and the Strategy for Sustainable and Smart Mobility in the Western Balkans," said Megevand.
The Ministry of Finance said the funds are intended for an intelligent transport system along Corridor X, namely establishing a system for traffic data collection, weigh-in-motion systems, control of vehicle height restrictions and collection of data on weather conditions on the highway, and system for monitoring transport of hazardous materials.
