Berlin, 4 February 2025 (dpa/MIA) - Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has extended his contract with Bayern Munich until June 2026, the Bundesliga record champions said in a statement on Monday.
Neuer's current deal was to expire at the end of the current term, but he will now play his 15th season with the club.
"I really enjoy playing football and want to remain a Bayern player. I’m still hungry and am looking forward to another year at this special club," he said.
The 2014 World Cup champion retired from the Germany national team after last summer's Euro 2024 on home soil, and there were questions about whether he would continue his club career.
"Manuel Neuer is the best goalkeeper of his generation and a Bayern icon. When you talk about goalkeeping in our time, you talk about Manuel Neuer – and that’s around the world. He’s an absolute role model, both on and off the pitch," board member for sport Max Eberl said.
Neuer joined Bayern from Schalke in summer 2011 and has been team captain since 2017. The 38-year-old has won the Bundesliga 11 times, six German Cups and two Champions League titles with the club.
"Manuel Neuer has been setting the bar for goalkeeping for over a decade. He’s our captain, a big figure at Bayern, and the team know they can always rely on him. We’re delighted that we can chase our goals next season with him as well," sporting director Christoph Freund said.
