Skopje, 24 November 2025 (MIA) – Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of North Macedonia, Afrim Gashi, held a meeting on Monday with a delegation from the Kingdom of Spain consisting of Natalia Usero Pérez, Jan Pomés López and Lucas Castillo Rodríguez, members of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee.

According to the Parliament’s press service, Gashi welcomed the guests, expressing confidence that the visit will launch fruitful cooperation between the two friendly parliaments and countries.

He expressed gratitude for Spain’s support for our country’s EU integration process and, explaining the sensitivity of the situation regarding the requested constitutional changes, voiced hope that the guests from Spain would show understanding and help overcome the remaining obstacles to opening negotiations with the Union.

On the other hand, the members of the Spanish delegation explained that they too come from a multinational state and understand the sensitivity of the issue. Drawing on Spain’s own path to the European Union, they affirmed that although compromises are difficult decisions, they resolve problems in the long term and contribute to peace and development.

At the end of the meeting, the interlocutors expressed their wish for a successful visit and for the cooperation to continue further to the mutual benefit of both sides.
