FinMin urges businesses to observe laws, says draconian fines imposed otherwise

Skopje, 31 January 2025 (MIA) - Finance Minister Gordana Dimitrieska-Kochoska urged Friday businesses to observe the laws and to not abuse the fact that a certain institution has not carried out the proper inspections.
"It is true that certain institutions could not make the proper controls during this period due to limited capacities, but when it comes to money and financial transactions, a trace is always there. They can be subject to control even after a year and if irregularities are found, fines will follow. Therefore, I urge all companies in the country to respect the laws because an institution will eventually go out, inspect, and issue draconian fines," said Minister Dimitrieska-Kochoska.
Fanned by calls for boycott shared on social media, citizens are expected to stay away from shopping in supermarkets in protest against surging prices of foodstuffs. The calls for boycott of shops nationwide came following last week’s daylong boycott in Croatia. The move is expected to expand across the region to include Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Slovenia. The Government and political parties have supported the boycott.
The Public Revenue Office has said it would provide information on the daily revenues of markets following today's boycott.
