Skopje, 18 March 2026 (MIA) — Minister of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources Sanja Bozhinovska and UNICEF Representative Lesley Miller met Wednesday to discuss how the country’s shift to clean energy can better support the health and future of children.
According to an official press release, the meeting focused on creating policies that tackle climate change and energy poverty while ensuring young people are not left behind during the transition to sustainable energy.
Bozhinovska said the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources was committed to making energy secure, clean and affordable for all households, particularly vulnerable families.
"Energy policies are not just an economic issue; they directly impact the quality of life, health and future of our children," Bozhinovska said. "Our goal is to build a system that is fair and sustainable for all generations."
Miller praised the ministry for including children’s rights in energy planning, noting that sectors like energy have often been overlooked in child protection efforts.
Meeting participants also discussed giving young people a voice in policy-making; mentoring teaching staff and expanding vocational training for high school students; and raising public awareness through teaching students about energy efficiency and clean air.
The release said the energy ministry would now be looking for ways to integrate UNICEF's practical training and internship programs into its own activities.
The representatives also agreed to deepen their partnership to ensure equal opportunities and a more secure future for every child in the nation. mr/
