Dimitrieska Kochoska: Certain institutions call for boost in capital spending

Skopje, 3 June 2026 (MIA) - Finance Minister Gordana Dimitrieska Kochoska said talks with state institutions on the budget rebalance are drawing to a close, adding that upcoming spending cuts and funding boosts will soon be revealed.

In an interview with Sitel TV on Wednesday, the Minister said certain institutions facilitating municipal project funding call for boost in capital spending.

"Talks with all ministries are not finished. Once the talks conclude, we will review the situation to see where there is room for cuts and supplements. Certain institutions call for boost in the capital expenditure item. These are institutions facilitating municipal project funding," Dimitrieska Kochoska said.

According to her, past debt repayments are proceeding as outlined in the budget. "We have done everything to secure funds for the repayment of past debts," said Dimitrieska Kochoska.

As regards public debt, the Finance Minister said the threshold is steadily maintained at around 60 percent, noting that the Government is successfully managing this part. She believes that the increase in debt is not a problem if it is properly targeted because any new debt directed towards a project that will have added value for the economy will essentially reduce that percentage of public debt.

"As Minister of Finance, I am focused and working on ensuring that my successor is not put in a situation to be repaying huge Eurobonds every year, as was the case in these past four years. The biggest difficulty for the Ministry of Finance is that all debts are concentrated in four years," Dimitrieska Kochoska said.
