Buy Nothing Friday leads to 22.12% drop in grocery store turnover

Skopje, 8 February 2025 (МIA) — The Public Revenue Office recorded a total turnover of 232,79 million denars on Thursday, Feb. 6, and of 181,29 million denars on Friday, Feb. 7, marking a drop of 22.12 percent in total turnover from the previous day in the country's eight largest supermarket chains on the second Buy Nothing Friday.
To put pressure on retailers to reduce prices, shoppers had been called to boycott grocery stores nationwide.
However, the total turnover on Feb. 7 was 36.95 percent higher than on the first Buy Nothing Friday, Jan. 31, when the total turnover was 114,29 million denars.
"Various factors that can affect consumer habits should be taken into account for this," the PRO said, noting that "a great deal of citizens receive their paychecks and pensions at the beginning of the month, which also changes consumers' behavior." mr/
