Zelensky: Ukraine to support homeowners in purchasing generators

Kiev, 10 February 2026 (dpa/MIA) - The Ukrainian government is set to support homeowners in purchasing generators and other energy sources amid ongoing Russian attacks on the country's energy system.
President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the policy on Monday after consultations with Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.
The purchase of an autonomous power supply should become more affordable for owners' associations of apartment buildings and owners of single-family homes, Zelensky said in his evening video message.
In another programme for businesses, 20,000 applications for subsidies for the maintenance and repair of generators have already been received.
In addition, half a billion hryvnia ($11.6 million) in interest-free loans have been granted for the purchase of generators, he said.
However, demand is likely to be much greater.
Several waves of Russian airstrikes since the beginning of January have damaged Ukraine's energy supply to such an extent that Kiev, Kharkiv and other cities have had hardly any electricity or heating during the severe frost.
In the capital, more than 1,100 apartment blocks will not be able to be heated until spring. Companies are keeping operations running by using diesel generators.
The state-owned company Ukrenergo has announced hours-long power cuts in all parts of the country for Tuesday as well.
