Budapest, 7 April 2026 (dpa/MIA) - US Vice President JD Vance is set to visit Hungary on Tuesday, days before the country votes in an election that polls predict Prime Minister Viktor Orbán could lose.
Vance, who along with President Donald Trump has strongly backed Orbán, is to speak at an election rally with the prime minister in a Budapest sports centre in the evening.
According to the White House, the theme of his address will be the rich bilateral partnership between the two countries.
Ahead of the rally, Vance and Orbán are to hold talks and give a press conference.
Pre-election polling has for months suggested that Orbán, who has been in power continuously since 2010 and previously held power between 1998 and 2002, could lose Sunday's election.
The right-wing populist, who champions "illiberal" democracy, maintains good relations with the Trump administration and with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
