Toshkovski on Safe City: Already 20 percent fewer patients with severe injuries at Traumatology Clinic

Skopje, 18 December 2025 (MIA) – Minister of Interior Panche Toshkovski expects support from MPs for the amendments to the Law on Misdemeanours and the Criminal Code, the last in the set of legal amendments for the official implementation of the Safe City system, which has been in trial period since the beginning of December.

Toshkovski told Kanal 5 TV on Thursday that as announced, Safe City will become fully operational on February 1, 2026, in accordance with feedback so far and the procedure required for two more bills, i.e. amending the Law on Misdemeanours and the Criminal Code.

"Amendments to the Law on Misdemeanours, which is in the second phase in Parliament, require a two-thirds majority, whereas amendments to the Criminal Code require a simple majority. I hope that MPs will recognize the seriousness of this and provide support so that the implementation of this crucial project can begin," said Toshkovski.

He confirmed that the implementation of the system will be delayed if the Parliament doesn't back the Law on Misdemeanours.

"All MPs should back this law. The goal is to save human lives," Minister Toshkovski pointed out.

According to him, during the 15-day trial period of the system's implementation in Skopje, citizens have shown that they can act more responsibly in traffic, and the number of patients admitted with severe injuries at the Traumatology Clinic has decreased by 20 percent, while the number of patients brought to the Clinic has decreased by 15 to 20 percent.

Minister Toshkovski assures that the technical issues detected during the trial period will be overcome by February 1.

He noted that video footage of traffic misdemeanours will be kept for a period of time determined in accordance with the laws within the framework of investigative actions, and the Ministry of Interior will launch an app for citizens to receive information about the misdemeanours.
