Skopje, 12 March 2025 (MIA) — Swedish jazz and trip-hop electronica artist Jay-Jay Johanson will give a concert Wednesday evening at the Philharmonic. The concert will feature music from his 14 albums, including his latest single, "Finally," based on Brahms's Symphony No. 3.
According to organizers in a press release, Johanson began writing music as a teenager, but it was not until August 1996 that he released his debut album "Whiskey." The album featured Johanson's jazz vocals over trip-hop rhythms and film noir arrangements and achieved rapid success, leading to his first of many world tours.
"Almost 30 years later, following underground hits like 'So Tell the Girls That I Am Back in Town,' 'Believe In Us,' 'On the Radio,' 'Heard Somebody Whistle' and collaborations with the Cocteau Twins and The Knife, he is still as active as ever, having just released his 14th album, 'Fetish,' and embarked on a new world tour," organizers say.
Johanson's music has also been popular in fashion circles and used in advertisements. His song "Vertigo" was chosen for Ralph Lauren's spring 2022 fashion show in New York, and Balenciaga used "The Girl with the Sun in Her Eyes" as the soundtrack for an online campaign.
Johanson's music influences include Chet Baker and Portishead's early albums, organizers add. mr/
