Nikoloski: Steps taken toward direct flights with Saudi Arabia

Skopje, 18 February 2026 (MIA) – The Ministry of Transport has begun a procedure to sign an air transport agreement with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which, as announced on Wednesday, will establish a legal framework for launching regular flights between the two countries.

Until now, there has been no air traffic between the two countries, and the launch of regular flights is expected to boost economic cooperation, tourism, trade, and overall bilateral relations.

“The agreement establishes liberal and fair conditions for airline operations by promoting competition, lower fares for passengers, and opportunities for new and improved services. At the same time, it ensures the highest standards of safety and security in air transport in accordance with international norms. Macedonia and Saudi Arabia maintain friendly relations and share a commitment to advancing economic and trade cooperation, increasing investment, and strengthening collaboration in several areas of common interest,” said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikoloski.

The Ministry of Transport stresses that concluding such agreements at the international level is an important instrument for improving connectivity between countries and strengthening economic, political and institutional cooperation.

“In the period ahead, the Ministry of Transport will undertake all necessary activities to initiate official procedures for regulating air traffic, in accordance with national legislation and international standards in the field of civil aviation,” reads the press release.
