Mickoski: No strong economy without strong universities, no modern state without educated and motivated youth

Skopje, 7 March 2026 (MIA) – Our vision is clear – education must be the foundation of the country’s development. There can be no strong economy without strong universities, and no modern state without educated and motivated young people, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said during the cornerstone laying ceremony for the new campus of Mother Teresa University in Skopje on Saturday.

Mickoski noted that the campus will be built on an area of 31,000 square meters and will feature a modern academic complex with contemporary lecture halls, student spaces, a swimming pool, and sports facilities – infrastructure designed to meet the needs of modern higher education. The total investment amounts to €42 million, with €40 million allocated for construction and €2 million for project supervision.

“This investment is part of a broader vision, the vision of the education we are building. Today we lay the foundation for something far more than a construction project, it is the foundation of the future. By starting the construction of the new modern campus, we reaffirm our firm commitment to investing in knowledge, in young people, and in the development of higher education. This project is a strategic investment in the country’s future, creating modern conditions for education, scientific work, and academic growth,” Mickoski noted.

Minister of Education and Science Vesna Janevska said the government is continuing efforts to improve educational infrastructure for teachers and students.

“This is an extremely important moment as we lay the cornerstone of the country’s youngest university. We are enhancing infrastructure for both teachers and students-motivating, in particular, the professors to provide excellent education and pass on knowledge and skills to students. I believe construction will proceed according to plan, and in five years we will have a magnificent building, a temple of science, education, art, and human capital development. I expect those who study and work here to give back to the country by acquiring serious knowledge and skills, making the nation more competitive,” Janevska said.
