Skopje, 22 December 2025 (MIA) – Despite the geographical distance, bilateral relations remain cordial and continue to develop in a spirit of mutual understanding, respect and constructive cooperation, Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi said at Monday’s meeting with Li Jian, Director General of European Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China.
As announced by the parliamentary press service, Gashi reaffirmed the country’s commitment to the “One China” principle, including recognition of the Government of the People’s Republic of China as the sole legitimate government of the Chinese people and recognition of Taiwan as an inseparable part of Chinese territory.
At the meeting, Gashi said that the parliamentary majority remains firmly focused on achieving the key strategic goals that have remained unchanged since independence, namely progress toward opening negotiations for full membership in the European Union.

Both interlocutors agreed that while bilateral cooperation is yielding tangible results across many sectors, there remains room to further deepen relations in the fields of tourism, culture and trade. The continuous contribution of the Chinese Embassy in Skopje to the development and advancement of relations between the two countries was also highlighted.
At the meeting, as stated in the press release, it was noted that the Parliamentary Group for Cooperation with the Parliament of the People’s Republic of China, which has been established in the Parliament in all previous terms, serves as a forum for establishing, fostering and deepening closer inter-parliamentary tiles and for the exchanging views on legislative matters between the two countries.
Director General for European Affairs conveyed to Gashi a message of congratulations from his counterpart, Zhao Leji, President of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China.
