Skopje, 1 March 2026 (MIA) – SDSM leader Venko Filipche said the US attack on Iran was conducted after all diplomatic mechanisms had been exhausted.

“The United States is our strategic partner and after exhausting all diplomatic mechanisms of negotiations, it decided to attack Iran. I think the attack and similar actions are in the same context as the intervention in Venezuela, which is for the good of the people of Iran, as it was for the good of the people of Venezuela,” Filipche told a news conference Sunday.

The United States, being our strategic partner, he said, should be aware that our country has a government that shares the characteristics of authoritarian regimes they are trying to topple.

According to the opposition leader, the government is pushing the country in isolation despite being aware that EU integration of our country and of the whole region is also in the strategic interest of the US. 

Regarding today’s Security Council session following the latest developments in the Middle East, Filipche said it’s good to have discussions. “We are in NATO and I believe coordination is being made at that level,” he told the news conference.
