Skopje, 8 November 2024 (MIA) – There is no longer any dilemma in the European Union that the Western Balkan countries should join the EU. This is the position of Austrian MEP and European Parliament’s rapporteur for North Macedonia, Thomas Waitz, that he conveyed in a meeting in Brussels with Deputy Prime Minister in charge of good governance policies, Arben Fetai, his office said.
EP rapporteur Waitz said North Macedonia should seize the moment created as a result of the Russian aggression against Ukraine and do everything in its power to open negotiations and join the EU as soon as possible. He pledged he will do everything in his and the European Parliament’s power to meet the common goal.
Deputy PM Fetai informed Waitz about the government’s activities to implement the reform agenda, primarily as regards rule of law and fight against corruption. Fetai highlighted the importance of the construction of Corridor 8, considered also a security project for addressing environmental challenges.
He voiced concern over the Russian influence on the information space in North Macedonia, which should be treated as a serious issue to national security, said the press release.
