Skopje, 18 March 2026 (MIA) - For North Macedonia, as a country with limited domestic resources and high import dependence, energy connectivity and regional cooperation are key prerequisites for economic stability and long-term development. In this regard, the government is making efforts to increase investment in the energy sector, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Zoran Dimitrovski said during the panel discussion on energy at the international forum "Developing an Indo-Mediterranean Perspective through the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) Network," held in Trieste.
Dimitrovski underscored that the operation of this corridor, amid the current Middle East crisis, is strategically important for ensuring the uninterrupted flow of energy resources between Asia and Europe.
Dimitrovski, regarding activities to develop the country’s energy sector, referred to the development of renewable energy sources, the modernization of energy infrastructure, and the strengthening of regional energy corridors, emphasizing these as particularly important for positioning the country as a key transit and investment destination in the region, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade said in a press release.
The forum was opened by Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, and was attended by government representatives, senior officials, and business delegations from Europe, India, the Middle East, the United States, and the Balkans.
